<p>There is a lack of study focusing on the payoffs and pitfalls of integrating CP principles in EFL classrooms especially in the Indonesian higher education context. This case study research was performed to unearth the benefits and challenges of integrating the four CP principles consisting of dialogue, problem-posing, praxis, and conscientization in the tertiary education EFL context. The two EFL lecturers teaching in different higher education institutions Subang and Bandung, West Java Province were selected as the participants of this study. The data were collected using interview guideline and classroom observation sheet. The obtained data were then analyzed through transcribing, coding, categorizing, interpreting, comparing, and concluding. The result showed that there are two benefits and two challenges perceived by the participants. While the two benefits are improving students’ English proficiency and increasing their social awareness, the two challenges are students’ unwillingness to participate during the classroom discussions and predetermined curriculum. <p>The Pancasila Learner Profile in Indonesia emphasizes character development rooted in Pancasila's values, aiming to cultivate morally upright students ready for 21st-century challenges with both competence and integrity. Utilizing educational technology like Flipbook, especially in English language learning, offers a promising approach to instilling Pancasila values. Thus, this research aims at developing islamic story flipbook for strenthening pancasila student profile. Research and Development (R&D) with ADDIE development model was used in this research. The respondents of this research were the fourth grade of SD Muhammadiyah Ambarawa consisting of 52 students. Then, the product was validated by four experts who assess the feasibility of the product coming from users, material expert, media expert, and multimedia expert. The data were collected from observation and the questionnaire. The findings indicate that the user’s score was 4.6, material expert’s score was 3.28, media expert’s score was 4.21 and multimedia expert’s score was 5. This means that the product was categorized in ‘good’ and ‘very good’ categories. <p>As an international language, English has various accents from various regions due to cultural and social aspects. This research aims to find out students' views on World Englishes in English Language Teaching, to investigate the benefits and difficulties in learning World Englishes in the classroom and to describe students’ suggestion for class on World Englishes. This research uses a qualitative approach. The methods used to collect data were observation, an open-ended questionnaire, and a semi-structured interview. NVivo 12 program was used to organize the data. Meanwhile, the transcribed data were analyzed using the thematic analysis method. A total of 32 second-year students majoring in English at one of the public universities in Indonesia participated in this study. The results of this study showed that most of the students had the same perceptions of World Englishes. Students stated that World Englishes is the concept of the diversity or variety of English used in each region. In addition, they said that by studying World Englishes they get some benefits. However, they also faced problems while learning the concept of World Englishes. <p>This study discusses the phenomenon of social avoidance in modern society as depicted in the novel ‘Sad Girls’ by Lang Leav. By using a qualitative descriptive analysis approach, this study explores the characteristics and factors that influence social avoidance behavior, as well as its impact on the main character's social avoidance. The data was collected from quotations, sentences, or character dialog in the novel <em>SAD GIRLS</em> which shows social avoidance in modern society. Then, the data was analyzed using social avoidant theory. The results of this study revealed that the characteristics of social avoidance include avoiding social encounters, minimizing conversations, and feeling uncomfortable in their social environment. In addition, two factors that influence a person to be socially avoidant are internal and external. <p>The purpose of this study is to analyze types of derivational morphology found in the short story entitled "John Rossiter's Wife". In addition, this research also finds out which type or group of derivational morphology is most often used in the short story. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The researchers used document analysis to collect the data. Content analysis was used to find out the group of derivational morphology in the short story. To check the quality of the data, the researchers used peer review or peer debriefing, multiple investigators, and theories. The results showed that there are 26 words from four types of derivational morphology, namely adverbs formed from adjectives, nouns formed from members of other word classes, adjectives formed from adjectives, and adjectives formed from members of other word classes. Furthermore, the result of this research revealed that the highest percentage of occurrence is adjectives derived from members of other word classes. <p>Vocabulary is the first language component that students should master. However, many students faced problems in mastering vocabulary. This study aims to find out the improvement of students’ vocabulary through the use of Kubis and to investigate the obstacles faced by the students in learning vocabulary by using the Kubis application. This research employed Mix-method. The data was collected using the test and interview. Seventh-grade students were involved in this study as the respondents of the research. The result of this study showed that students’ vocabulary mastery was improved after learning by using Kubis application. However, the data also revealed that there are some obstacles students faced when using Kubis. The difficulties are caused by several reasons, such as technological barriers, passive students, the restriction on using smartphones by the parents, and the application is less interesting for students.</p>MunasarahNuzulul Isna

This study aimed at describing the development of translation quality of a novice translator’s work after joining internship program. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the data source was the translation result of the English text into Indonesian. This translation was produced by a novice translator during a three-month internship program. Documentary study was employed to collect the data. To analyze the data, it was used text and content analysis technique. Afterwards, the data are categorized based on Larson's theory (1997). <p>This study aims to analyze the students’ difficulties in writing descriptive text. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative research. Tenth-grade students at one of the Islamic High School in Jakarta were selected as the respondents of this research by using purposive sampling. The data of this study was collected by using interviews and documentation. The result of this study revealed that there are four difficulties faced by the students in writing descriptive text such as understanding grammar (50%), limited vocabulary (30%), content (30%), and generating ideas (20%). Thus, it can be concluded that grammar and limited vocabulary were the most prevalent difficulties, followed by challenges in content knowledge and generating ideas. <p>This research explores the challenges faced by English teacher in implementing differentiated learning methods, particularly in speaking skills and investigates the solutions toward the problems. The study uses a qualitative method with case study design. As it was employed to describe the experiences of an English teacher at a high school in Surabaya who applied the differentiation learning method. The respondent of this research is an English teacher who is employing differentiated learning. This research used interviews and observations to collect the data. The results showed that the teacher faced several challenges in using differentiated learning in teaching speaking. The challenges are selecting content that suits students' level ability, managing passive students, and dealing with students with confidence, anxiety, and vocabulary and grammar issues as a product of learning. The learning environment also presents challenges, such as noise and classroom facilities. In addition, the data also revealed that teacher found solutions toward the problems, such as providing multiple texts, allowing active students to speak in turns, offering design products based on negotiation, and calming the class to maintain concentration. <p>This study examines the types and the strategies of expressive speech acts employed on Agnes Monica’s Instagram account. The method used for this research is qualitative research with a descriptive explanation. The results of the data that the researchers have collected and analyzed are from 140 data, there are 16 kinds of expressive speech acts with the most dominant function being “excited” with 18%, and it classified into 5 strategies of expressive speech acts with the dominant strategy being “implicit, direct, literal, and expressed” with 40%. The researcher also found some factors that influence English expressive speech acts on @agnezmo Instagram where Agnes Monica is described as a modern society with the characteristics of having a high level of mobility who pursuing her career internationally, tries to communicate globally by using a language that can be understood widely, and getting affected by the social culture surroundings. These factors influenced the lifestyle and language habits of Agnes Monica. <p><em>Ramayana</em> is the famous story from India that have retold in many versions and translated into many languages. <em>Ramayana</em> has unique way in depicting characters between the protagonist and antagonist. In the story of <em>Ramayana</em>, Ravana as the antagonist character also has some good personality such as the way he treats Sita. According to the issues, the researcher tried to analyze binary oppositions in the story of <em>Ramayana</em> retold by C. Rajagopalachari by using the deconstruction theory of Jacques Derrida. This research is a qualitative descriptive research that focus on the antagonist character in this story namely Ravana. The data were taken from the quotations in the book to find out or explain the deconstruction analysis in the Ramayana retold by C. Rajagopalachari. The result of this research showed that the binary oppositions are found in the antagonist character, Ravana. <p>The usefulness of formative assessment in a teaching process is widely recognized, but there hasn’t been much attention paid on examining teachers’ literacy in formative assessment. Therefore, this study aims to investigate teacher’s literacy of formative assessment, namely conceptual, practical, and socio-emotional dimensions. The study employed a qualitative approach, using semi-structured interview that was adapted from Yan & Pastore (2022b) to collect data from two English private primary school teachers. Thematic analysis by Miles & Hubberman (1994) was applied to examine the interview data. The findings indicated that the teachers possess a significant literacy in formative assessment. They provided a comprehensive explanation of their understanding, practices, and beliefs regarding formative assessment. Conceptually, they demonstrate a solid grasp of formative assessment principles. Practically, they effectively implement key strategies associated with formative assessment. Socio-emotionally, they exhibit a positive attitude towards formative assessment, recognizing its impact and highlighting the significance of fostering a mutual understanding between teachers and students. <p>Textbooks are essential for teaching and learning English. Cultural material is important in English textbooks since language and culture are inseparably linked. Curriculum changes are common in the Indonesian educational system, prompting textbook modifications, including those for English language materials. Recognizing that each textbook has unique advantages and limitations, this study investigates the cultural categories offered in the English textbook BRIGHT. It also tries to determine the primary cultural characteristics featured in this textbook. The study used a content analysis methodology, which involved carefully reviewing the textbook's material using an observation sheet. This study utilizes a qualitative design, focusing on textbook content analysis and documenting results as percentages. The findings show that the textbook focuses on source cultures with insufficient representation of target cultures. This limited representation emphasizes the need for better equal incorporation of cultural elements. <p>This study aimed to analyze the impact of video projects on YouTube to improve students' speaking skills. This study used descriptive quantitative research. The population of this study was 42 second semester students of English Education Study Program at University of Nias. To determine the sample researchers used simple random sampling then the sample of this study was 20 people. The data were collected by using documentation and observation techniques. The data was in the form of videos made and uploaded by the students with three different topics. Students’ videos have three different topics namely registration, giving opinions and arriving late. The videos were observed and scored based on the speaking assessment rubric by Helmanda & Nisa (2018). After that, the scores obtained by students from each video were categorized. The researchers examined the video projects uploaded by second-semester students to analyze the impact of video uploading on improving students’ speaking skills. The result showed that students’ video project can improve students’ speaking skill. <p>This research explores how the context of an utterance affects the interpretation of dialogue. The focus is on analyzing the different types of deixis and their functions within the film's conversations. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the study collects data from the movie's dialogue through documentation and note-taking. The analysis is grounded in Levinson's Theory, identifying five categories of deixis: person, time, place, social, and discourse. <p>The emergence of e-LKM is a technological advancement for Generation Z, whose each day is heavily reliant on technology, allowing the use of e-LKM particularly suited in this digital era. This research aims to examine the need to find an appropriate needs analysis that include the first stage of the 5D model (Define, Design, Demonstrate, Develop, and Deliver). The needs analysis seeks to discover and aims to develop e-LKM based on 1) Students’ target needs, 2) Students’ learning needs, and 3) The perceptions of English lecturers on the e-LKM. The researchers used a questionnaire and distributed it to 240 students. The result of this study indicated that 1) The student's target needs display that students learn English to be able to communicate and support their future (career and further studies), 2) The student's learning needs point out that students need lecturers and materials as the main source of learning, and 3) The English lecturer perception on students' English language skills are still low and there are gaps between students. <p>The study aims to identify deixis types and their references in "Cinderella." Kenneth Branagh directed and Chris Weitz screen played this film. This study used descriptive qualitative research. The info came from the Cinderella script. The data was evaluated using Levinson's theory. The research discovered five types of deixis in Cinderella: person (998), spatial (84), time (47), place (98), and discourse (66). <p>This study is conducted to know the correlation between reading habits and students’ writing ability. The method used is a correlation study. The respondents are fourth-semester students at STKIP Muhammadiyah Aceh Barat Daya. The total number of respondents is 30 students. The data were collected by using two techniques; a questionnaire as an instrument to survey students’ reading habits and a test to measure students’ writing skill. Pearson Product Moment was implemented to see whether reading habits correlate with students’ ability to write narrative text. The result of the study proved that the significance (Sig. 2-tailed) value is 0.000 which indicates a significant relationship. There is a strong correlation between students' reading habits and their writing ability. <p>This research investigates the use of camp talk and citationality by Jack McFarland in the U.S sitcom <em>Will and Grace</em>. Using the first season’s transcript of the show and thoroughly watching the whole episodes, this study utilized a qualitative method to discover where he potentially employed camp talk and citationality in his utterance, and further categorized them based on the aspect of camp talk and citationality under the theory of Harvey (2002). The findings show 10 instances were identified, including three instances of citing cultural artefacts to foster a sense of shared culture with his interlocutors, three instances of citing the linguistic medium to challenge traditional gender norms, and four instances of citing femininity to use strategies of how women communicate. <p>This quasi-experimental study examined the effectiveness of using English songs to teach writing skills to tenth-grade students at a Jakarta high school. The study involved 68 students over two classes. One class was given the song-based instruction as the experimental group, while the other class functioned as the control group. Both classes had pre-tests and post-tests to evaluate the impact of the treatment. Using IBM SPSS Statistics, the experimental class improved their average scores by 7.56 points compared to 4.59 points in the control group. The data revealed that the 2-tailed significance is p (0.039), while the alpha significance (α) is 0.05. Thus, since 0.039 is less than 0.05, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. However, developing these skills takes work and require serious effort. The combination of technology and technology-mediated task-based learning (TBLT) is a suitable formula to improve speaking and writing skills, especially for students in elementary schools. This is a mixed-method study where qualitative and quantitative approaches complement each other. A total of 56 4th-grade elementary school students who were divided into experimental groups (n-28) and control groups (n-28) became participants in this study. The data collection techniques used were tests, observation, and interviews. Meanwhile, for data analysis, this study used statistical analysis for quantitative data and content analysis for qualitative data. The results indicate that the use of technology-mediated task-based learning had an effect on students' speaking and writing skills. This can be seen from the statistical test results of Asymp. Sig two-tailed (0.037) that is lower than 0.05. In addition, using Technology-mediated task-based learning has several advantages, including creating exciting learning and increasing students' engagement.
