Abstract

Digital technology has opened up significant opportunities for community-based tourism promotion. This study aims to explore how local tourism groups, specifically Tourism Awareness Groups (Pokdarwis), utilize digital media as a communication strategy to showcase village tourism potential. A descriptive qualitative method was employed using in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The research focused on three tourism villages in South Buton Regency: Bahari, Batuatas, and Sampolawa. The findings reveal that Pokdarwis in the first two villages actively managed platforms like Instagram and TikTok to create engaging visual narratives. This effort contributed to a 30% increase in tourist visits over the past year. The success was supported by youth involvement and participatory digital literacy training. Conversely, limited human resources and digital infrastructure were key challenges in the third village. The study highlights the need for collaboration between Pokdarwis, local governments, and digital practitioners to develop an inclusive, sustainable, and empowering tourism promotion system. Community-based education plays a central role in strengthening digital self-reliance among local residents.
