PENGUATAN KARAKTER SANTUN DALAM BERBAHASA MELALUI MODEL PROJECT-BASED LEARNING DI KALANGAN MAHASISWA

This study aims to describe the current state of language politeness among university students, identify the contributing factors to its decline, and explore the role of the project-based learning (PjBL) model as an effort to strengthen polite language character. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research was conducted at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, involving students and lecturers of the Indonesian Language course. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The findings indicate a decline in students’ language politeness due to the influence of digital communication culture, weak integration of politeness values in learning, and low ethical awareness in language use. The PjBL model was found to effectively foster awareness through collaborative, reflective, and participatory activities. However, it is recommended that the development of the PjBL model be further enhanced by emphasizing values such as empathy and social responsibility, so that students are equipped not only with cognitive abilities but also with social skills and character values, including politeness in language.
