Narrative structure becomes problematic when a novel is adapted into a streaming series because a verbal narrator, descriptive duration, and a broad social world must be reorganized into episodes. This study asks how adaptation strategies - reduction, addition, and variation - shape plot and audiovisual point of view as narrative outcomes. It aims to explain the relationship between those strategies and the reorganization of historical memory. Using qualitative comparative content analysis, the researcher used coding cards and a novel-series matrix to record page references, timecodes, plot functions, focalization, and transformation categories. The corpus comprised Ratih Kumala's novel and five episodes of the Netflix series. The findings identify reductions of 34 events, 19 minor characters, and five spatial settings; five new characters and changes in six character or relationship units strengthen causal links and present-past transitions. The novel's omniscient narration is replaced by focalization through performance, mise-en-scène, dialogue, and editing. Thus, the adaptation reorganizes information and historical memory for episodic audiovisual storytelling rather than merely shortening the source text.
