A COMPARISON BETWEEN STAD-TYPE AND TPS-TYPE COOPERATIVE LEARNING IN MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS’ GEOMETRY LEARNING

Abstract


Mathematics, as a multi-interpretation science, is taught in all disciplines (exact sciences and non-exact sciences) and all levels of education, starting from primary education to higher education. Mathematics is also called the queen and the servant of all other subjects. Mathematics learning requires implementation of various kinds of learning models and methods. Cooperative learning is a learning model that can solve problems in mathematics learning in classrooms, including the learning of cube and rectangular prism. Mathematics materials concerning cube and rectangular prism basically can be taught by employing STAD-type and TPS-type cooperative learning. The use of STAD-type and TPS-type cooperative learning in mathematics learning is regarded as effective. Based on the achievement of the competency standards, the use of STAD-type cooperative learning in improving students’ mathematical communication skills is more effective than that of TPS-type cooperative learning.
