The Influence of Social Support on the Adaptation of Guidance and Counseling Students Experiencing Culture Shock in a Campus Environment

Overseas students often experience culture shock, affecting their ability to adapt to the campus environment. This study examines the effect of social support on campus environmental adaptation among Guidance and Counseling students at UIN Ar-Raniry who experience culture shock. This research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 111 students selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments were a social support scale and a campus environmental adaptation scale, both of which had been tested for validity and reliability. The analysis showed that social support positively and significantly affected campus environmental adaptation, indicating that the higher the social support, the better the students’ adaptation ability. This study concludes that social support is key to strengthening students’ academic, social, and emotional adaptation. These findings contribute to developing social support–based guidance and counseling programs and inclusive campus policies for overseas students.
