Authorship Criteria

1. General Principles

ELTIN Journal: Journal of English Language Teaching in Indonesia is committed to ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability in the attribution of authorship. Authorship must accurately reflect the substantial intellectual contributions made by individuals to the research and manuscript.

All authors are expected to understand and agree with the journal's authorship criteria before submitting a manuscript. Academic position, institutional affiliation, funding support, or supervisory status alone does not qualify an individual for authorship.

2. Criteria for Authorship

An individual may be listed as an author of a manuscript submitted to ELTIN Journal when they meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Substantial contribution: They have made a substantial intellectual contribution to the conception or design of the study, the development of research instruments or methodology, the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data, or other essential scholarly aspects of the research.

  2. Writing and critical revision: They have participated in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.

  3. Final approval: They have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript submitted for publication.

  4. Accountability: They agree to take responsibility for their contributions and to cooperate in addressing questions concerning the accuracy, integrity, or reliability of the research and manuscript.

All four criteria must be fulfilled for an individual to qualify as an author.

3. Responsibilities of Authors

All authors listed in a manuscript are responsible for ensuring that:

  • The research and manuscript are original and accurately presented.

  • All relevant sources are properly cited and acknowledged.

  • The manuscript has not been published previously or submitted simultaneously to another journal.

  • Research methods, data, findings, and conclusions are reported honestly and transparently.

  • Relevant funding sources and conflicts of interest are disclosed.

  • All co-authors have approved the submitted manuscript and agreed to its submission to ELTIN Journal.

  • Questions concerning research integrity, authorship, and the accuracy of the manuscript are addressed promptly.

The corresponding author is responsible for coordinating communication with the editorial office and ensuring that all co-authors are informed of the submission and subsequent editorial decisions.

4. Author Contributions

Authors should clearly describe their respective contributions to the research and manuscript when submitting their work. Contributions may include conceptualization, methodology, investigation, data collection, formal analysis, interpretation of findings, writing of the original draft, critical revision, visualization, supervision, and project administration.

The contribution statement must accurately reflect the work performed by each author. ELTIN Journal may request additional information or clarification when necessary to establish the appropriate attribution of authorship.

5. Contributions That Do Not Qualify for Authorship

Activities that do not involve a substantial intellectual contribution to the research and manuscript are generally insufficient for authorship. These may include routine administrative assistance, funding provision alone, general supervision, proofreading, language editing, translation, or technical assistance without substantive intellectual involvement.

Individuals whose contributions do not meet the authorship criteria may be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section, with their permission.

6. Guest, Gift, and Ghost Authorship

ELTIN Journal does not accept inappropriate authorship practices, including:

  • Guest or honorary authorship: Listing an individual as an author without a qualifying scholarly contribution.

  • Gift authorship: Granting authorship as a courtesy, reward, or obligation rather than on the basis of actual contributions.

  • Ghost authorship: Omitting an individual who has made a contribution that qualifies them for authorship or concealing relevant contributions to the manuscript.

All authorship information must accurately represent the contributions made by each individual involved in the research and manuscript preparation.

7. Order of Authorship

The order of authors should be determined by mutual agreement among all authors and should reflect their respective scholarly contributions and applicable disciplinary conventions.

The corresponding author should ensure that all authors agree on the author list and order before manuscript submission. Authorship must not be determined solely by academic rank, seniority, institutional position, or financial support.

8. Changes in Authorship

Any request to add, remove, or rearrange authors after manuscript submission must be communicated in writing to the editorial office, accompanied by a clear explanation and the agreement of all authors concerned, including any individuals being added or removed.

ELTIN Journal reserves the right to request supporting documentation and to suspend editorial processing while an authorship dispute or change request is being assessed.

Requests for authorship changes after publication will be considered in accordance with the journal's publication ethics and correction procedures.

9. Authorship Disputes

Any suspected authorship dispute or inappropriate attribution will be handled in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and relevant guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

The editorial team may request clarification or documentary evidence from the authors and, where appropriate, contact the relevant institutions to help resolve the matter.

10. Ethical Commitment

By submitting a manuscript to ELTIN Journal, authors confirm that the listed authorship accurately reflects their contributions, that all listed authors have approved the submitted version, and that they accept responsibility for the integrity of their work.

ELTIN Journal is committed to promoting responsible research practices, transparent authorship, and ethical scholarly communication.
