Abstract

Enola Holmes (2020) is a film directed by Harry Bradbeer set in the Victorian era during the nineteenth century (1837-1901) in England.  Enola Holmes is an interesting film because it portrays the struggles of women in a patriarchal Victorian society that are still relevant today. The film tells the story of Enola, a young woman who searches for her missing mother while also resisting the social constraints imposed on women, especially in the education system. This study aims to reveal the social critique of patriarchal education in the film Enola Holmes (2020). The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach, informed by a feminist lens. The data were collected through observation, identification, classification, and interpretation of the film’s content. The analysis was conducted through the lens of  Wollstonecraft’s feminist concept, which advocates for women's right to rational education and freedom of movement. The results of this study indicate that Enola Holmes represents a patriarchal education system that limits women and reflects resistance to patriarchal norms. Through the character of Enola, this film highlights the importance of educational equality as a foundation for achieving gender justice in both historical and contemporary contexts.
